Ami Taf Ra, the North African, Los Angeles based vocalist and composer, comes to City Winery Nashville this November alongside acclaimed saxophonist, composer, and producer Kamasi Washington for a special tour presentation of her debut album, The Prophet and the Madman. Produced by Washington and released on Brainfeeder, the album draws together Moroccan Gnawa, Arabic musical tradition, gospel, soul, and spiritual jazz, informed by Kahlil Gibran's writing on healing and transformation. Ami's commanding voice shifts between intimacy, theatricality, and spiritual release.

The connection between Ami and Washington drives the record, especially on "How I Became a Madman," a meditation on chaos and clarity built from Washington's expansive production and Ami's cross cultural voice. It is music that honors tradition while pushing toward something new, linking North African and Middle Eastern sound to the improvisational freedom of jazz.

Ami's international performances span Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, and the United States, including the Dutch Royal Metropole Orchestra, the Hollywood Bowl Jazz Festival, and City Winery Boston. Kamasi Washington, a Grammy winner and Emmy nominee, remains one of the defining musical forces of his generation, working across jazz, soul, hip hop, classical, and film.

Nashville audiences get a rare front row seat to The Prophet and the Madman, Ami's storytelling and range meeting Washington's musical universe, all inside our intimate concert venue with signature wine and a menu built to match the night. Doors open at 6:00 PM and 9:30 PM. Reserve your seats for one of the most compelling shows in Nashville this November.
